FAQ

What does the Golden Grappling Hook do in SpeedRunners 2?
It targets the runner ahead of you and pulls them toward you — an overtaking weapon. The store description says it "pulls runners in front of you", and the achievements "Get Over Here" and "A Handful of Runners" confirm it grapples opponents.
Can you dodge the Golden Hook?
Yes — two official achievements are literally about it: "Missed!" for dodging one and "I’m Too Good" for dodging five. It is a readable, avoidable attack, not an auto-hit.
What is the difference between the grappling hook and the Golden Grappling Hook?
Your movement grappling hook is free and always equipped — it swings you from grapple points and blue ceilings. The Golden Grappling Hook is a pick-up that grabs opponents. One moves you; the other moves your rival.
Can you block the Golden Hook?
Blocking items is confirmed in general — the achievements "Not This Time" and "Predictable" are about blocking items with a Crate. Whether a Crate blocks the Golden Hook specifically is not yet verified against the live build; dodging is the confirmed out.

The Golden Grappling Hook is SpeedRunners 2’s signature pick-up and its most reliable source of new-player confusion: you grab it, aim at a ceiling like always, and nothing happens — because this hook doesn’t want the ceiling. It wants the runner in front of you.

This page collects everything the official sources confirm about the item — its effect, its four achievements, its counters — and explicitly marks what is still being verified.

What It Does, Exactly

The official store description: the golden grappling hook pulls runners in front of you. In race terms, it is an overtaking tool — you fire it at the runner ahead, it drags them back toward you, and you take their line while they deal with the sudden physics lesson.

It is one of the ten launch pick-ups (eight returning, two new — the full list covers the rest).

The Achievement Evidence

Four of the game’s 32 official achievements orbit this one item, and together they tell you how the duel actually works:

Achievement Condition What it confirms
Get Over Here Grapple an opponent with the Golden Hook The hook works on opponents
A Handful of Runners Grapple an opponent with the Golden Hook 10 times It’s a repeatable tactic, not a one-off
Missed! Dodge the Golden Hook It can be dodged — it’s a skill shot
I’m Too Good Dodge the Golden Hook 5 times Dodging is a practiced, rankable skill

The dodge pair is the strategic heart: an attack that five-time dodges get achievement-tracked is an attack with real counterplay. Both roles — thrower and target — are rewarded by the game’s own achievement list.

When to Throw It

Positional logic, not numbers (none are published):

  • Throw at committed targets. A runner mid-swing or mid-wall-jump can’t bail out of their arc — that’s when the pull lands hardest. Same principle as the freeze-effect logic in the pick-ups guide.
  • Throw before choke points. Dragging the leader backward right before a lever-forced detour (maps explainer) costs them more than the drag alone — they lose the line and the route knowledge.
  • Hold it when you’re leading. Like every offensive pick-up, it does nothing for first place — except as bait: a chaser holding the golden hook changes how the leader moves.

When It’s Coming for You: The Dodge

The confirmed counterplay, plus honest gaps:

  1. Break line-of-sight — grapple a blue ceiling or take a wall-jump route; a skill shot needs a line to travel.
  2. Change commitment state — the moment you’d be easiest to hit (mid-swing, mid-slide), break the pattern.
  3. Crate-blocking is confirmed for items in general (two achievements), but whether it stops the Golden Hook specifically is unverified — don’t bet a race on it until tested.
