FAQ

What does the Trap do in SpeedRunners 2?
It is a hazard pick-up you drop behind you — the counter-tool to the Rocket and other chase weapons. The official store copy names traps as part of the map and race vocabulary, and the pick-up continues the original game tradition of dropped hazards like mines and spikes. Exact damage and duration numbers are not officially published.
Where should you drop a Trap in SpeedRunners 2?
Behind you, always — races loop, so the runner chasing you now will meet whatever you leave. The classic placements are just after a pick-up cluster, at the landing spot under a wall-jump section, and on the exit of a tight choke where dodging room is smallest.
Is the Trap new in SpeedRunners 2?
No — it is on the returning side of the launch pick-up pool. The original SpeedRunners shipped with dropped hazards among its weapons; the official store copy for the sequel lists fan-favorite power-ups returning alongside new additions.

Chase items get the highlight reels — the Rocket homing in, the Golden Hook yanking the leader back. The Trap is the quieter half of item play: you are ahead, someone wants your position, and the Trap is how you make them pay for the pursuit.

The Official Record

  • Named in the official copy. The store page tells you to “outmaneuver opponents using speed boosters, shortcuts, and traps scattered across maps” — traps are part of the game’s official racing vocabulary, on the page since launch day.
  • On the returning side of the pool. The launch arsenal splits into returning fan-favorites and two new arrivals (Lightning Watch and Plasma Blaster); the Trap carries the original game’s dropped-hazard tradition — SpeedRunners (2016) shipped with mines and spikes among its weapons.
  • A pick-up, not a map fixture. Worth separating: the store’s sentence covers traps in the environment broadly, while the pick-up is the one you carry and place. Both exist; this page is about the one in your item slot.

Where the Trap Earns Its Slot

The rule that matters most is older than this game: races loop. The track is a circuit — the runner behind you now is the runner who will pass whatever you leave. The Trap is never “dropped nowhere”; it is dropped for someone specific.

  1. Under the wall-jump exit. Runners leave vertical sections with committed arcs and little steering. A hazard at the landing zone punishes exactly that commitment.
  2. Past every pick-up cluster. Chasers beeline to item boxes. The gap between “grabbed the item” and “back up to speed” is the window a placed hazard closes.
  3. In the choke exit. Tight corridors (see how maps are built from chokes, levers and booster lines) minimize dodging room. The Trap’s value scales with how little space the victim has.
  4. After you have been hooked. If a Golden Hook dragged you backward, the dragger is now directly behind you and closing — the revenge placement is straight down your own racing line.

Trap vs. the Other Defensive Options

You are holding Best when
Trap The chaser is committed to your exact line and the road ahead tightens
Crate Someone has already thrown — block the incoming item
Freezing Ray You can aim at the chaser directly, not just their path

The Trap is the only one that works while you ignore it — placed well, it defends you half a lap later while you are already racing the next problem. That is why lead-position play in the pick-ups guide treats it as the default hold when out front.

What Is Not Yet Verified

  • Numeric effect. Not published; re-verified with each patch.
  • Map interaction. Whether placed traps interact with levers, fire timing or specific map hazards is being verified against the live build rather than assumed here.
